The conclusion, the finish, and the undefeated Russian Legion strike back!
The final day of the PSP Mid Atlantic open was today, and boy was it a amazing day of controlled chaos with out of control plays, to out of control weather! From heat to downpours, and humidity to 1 shot execution type finishes on plays, the final was one heck of a ride!
Some major highlights of the finals included the D3 division with the DC Monstars taking home a first place finish, only with a score of 1-0, with a point that lasted what seemed 8 minutes with a crucial 1v1 win by veteran team member, Matt James (MJ) over Boom II. The D3 bracket ended with Monstars First, Boom II second, NCPA All-stars third, and new comers Underdogs taking a solid 4th place finish after going undefeated throughout the tournament.
D2 featured some great play as well. With a finale that was one for the record books reaching a crazy overtime point between Arsenal Predators and defending title holders, UpTon 187. The final match was almost in the bag for the predators but the rain kicked in and UpTon just seemed to take advantage of predator mistakes and down guns, bringing it to an overtime point, where Upton just seemed to come out wanting to retain their title of PSP D2 Champs. The division finished with Upton 187 first, Predators second, with Mirabel Impact taking third, and Senate finishing off the podium with a fourth place finish.
D1 was a great division to see with one of the most intense finals between Cross-Eyed Paintball (CEP) and Total Karnage Orlando (TKO). Both teams wanted this title, putting everything on the line, but CEP seemed to take advantage of every mistake possible, taking home the win in the D1 division. The division rounded off with CEP First, TKO second, Hurricanes third, and NJ Jesters taking home fourth.
The PRO bracket was where fans were ooo'ing and ahh'ing with the Red Legion sitting in first looking to take home 1st place. The finals paired up the Red Legion against Edmonton Impact, definitely a match to see. Impact came out solid, winning some of the first points quick, but getting hit with a penalty that just dampened the mood almost immediately, the Russians took advantage from there winning consecutive points in what seemed like matters of seconds, taking home gold for the PSP Mid-Atlantic Open Pro Race-to title! Impact definitely put up a fight taking home second, with San Diego Aftermath taking third, and the defending champs MAO champs, The LA Ironmen taking fourth.
On behalf of FACEFULL, we would like to thank the teams, players, families and of course Camille, Lang, and the rest of the PSP and Paintball Central Staff for once again hosting an amazing and successful PSP National Event! We'll see you all at World Cup in October!
